I was never a huge fan of ramen. I would find select ramen places that made me happy but most of the time, if we went to a ramen house, I would order something else. There was one place which I thought was great but my boyfriend informed me that the ramen I was eat was actually just regular instant noodles, thus relishing me into a world where I was suspicious of all ramen.

Until this.

Daikokuya

This ramen can be found at a restaurant called:

Photobucket.

And I swear, it is the best ramen out there.

Daikokuya’s site boasts that their soup is “made from soy sauce and boiling pork bones for nearly a full day”. And that they “only use kurobuta or black pork” because it’s the best. And their eggs…their eggs “are soaked in a special sauce all through the night before serving”.

Is this true? I have no idea. What I do know is their soup, especially if you get it with the kotteri flavor (menu says: “For all tonkotsu fanatics: ask for the richer, kotteri flavor which uses added soup extracted from the back fat”), is to die for. I don’t read too much into the kotteri flavor. If I did, I’d have to question what exactly back fat is.

In fact, now that I really read it for the first time, I’m really wondering what back fat is. I mean, other than the obvious of course. Never mind. I have a picture of back fat on a human that I would love to post here but I’m going to resist.

ANYWAY back to the ramen.

The noodles are the perfect consistency and are delicious. The veggies are perfection. The egg…well, I like the egg. My boyfriend LOVES the egg. Therefore, I usually give it to him except for the last time. I ate the egg myself. And you know, it’s actually pretty damn good.

Next time you are near a Daikokuya (Little Tokyo, Costa Mesa, Monterey Park, or Hacienda Heights), I seriously recommend going to go try their ramen. For my friends and me, it has become our tradition to eat ramen after snowboarding at Big Bear. And although Spring is approaching (or is here already), it’s still a delicious meal.

If you aren’t in the mood for ramen, try the shredded pork bowl. It is delicious as well.

And people agree!

Edit: It also makes good leftovers. Hi, my lunch for today.
